# Liverpool ‘closely following’ Real Madrid starlet Rodrygo

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/26/rumoured-liverpool-target-david-alaba-demands-midfield-role-at-next-club/) are ‘closely following’ Real Madrid forward [Rodrygo](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/11/07/liverpool-attempted-to-sign-real-madrid-star-rodrygo/), according to a report from Spanish publication [Diario Gol](https://www.diariogol.com/futbol/klopp-pregunta-al-liverpool-por-rodrygo.html).

They claimed that [Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/23/journalist-reveals-issue-that-has-to-be-addressed-by-jurgen-klopp/) has already set his sights on summer transfers in order to ‘turn things around’ at Anfield next season, and the Brazilian could form part of the resurgence.

The 20-year-old hasn’t featured for the La Liga giants this year after [suffering a hamstring injury in December](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9088591/Real-Madrids-Rodrygo-ruled-three-months-hamstring-injury-left-TEARS.html), before which the [four-cap international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rodrygo/nationalmannschaft/spieler/412363/verein_id/37018) had made a quiet start to the 2020/21 season, [scoring just once in 17 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rodrygo/leistungsdaten/spieler/412363).

Under contract at the Bernabeu [until 2025](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rodrygo/profil/spieler/412363) and with a [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rodrygo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/412363) value of £40.5m, [Diario Gol](https://www.diariogol.com/futbol/klopp-pregunta-al-liverpool-por-rodrygo.html) claimed that Zinedine Zidane doesn’t see the Brazilian as an ‘undisputed starter’ and could sanction his sale for £50m.

Capable of operating on either wing, Rodrygo has [drawn comparisons to compatriot Neymar](https://talksport.com/football/626605/rodrygo-real-madrid-wonderkid-new-neymar/) in the past and also [earned acclaim from Zidane](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50296542) as being able to ‘do everything with the ball’.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Liverpool certainly need a [shake-up of their attacking options](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1129336/Liverpool-transfer-news-Klopp-gossip-striker-signings-Icardi-Werner-Maxi-Gomez-rumours) and Rodrygo would provide a promising alternative.

However, £50m for a player who [remains relatively unproven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rodrygo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/412363) and would come under the bracket of a potential gem rather than a polished diamond is a huge gamble.

Whilst it would be foolish to question the [Reds’ recruitment over recent seasons](https://www.harringtonstarr.com/blog/2020/06/the-9-world-class-recruitment-secrets-behind-ending-30-years-of-hurt-for-liverpool-fc) – and should Rodrygo be signed, it would be backed to the hilt – this seems like a risk the club wouldn’t take.
