# Liverpool confident of getting Gini Wijnaldum deal completed

Liverpool are confident of agreeing a contract extension with midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, as per a report from Fabrizio Romano of [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jun/09/liverpool-and-georginio-wijnaldum-hold-positive-talks-over-new-contract).

The Dutchman has just over 12 months remaining on his current deal with the Reds and Liverpool are keen to extend his contract by at least three seasons.

According to Romano‘s report, Liverpool have held positive talks with Wijnaldum’s representatives about a possible extension, with the 29-year-old keen to stay with the Premier League champions-elect.

The midfielder has been keen to stay on Merseyside but wanted assurances that he’ll remain a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad going forwards and it looks like he’s been told just that.

When Liverpool signed Wijnaldum from Newcastle in 2016, it would have been hard to imagine that he’d move from being an attacking wide player at a relegated club to a star central midfielder for the European champions and soon to be Premier League champions.

However, that’s exactly what the Dutchman has become and it’s great news for everybody that he looks set to sign his new contract.

In these uncertain times, looking to replace such a key player as Wijnaldum may not have been easy, so one he puts pen-to-paper, that becomes one less thing for Jurgen Klopp to have to think about.
