# Liverpool confirm that Fabinho will be out until 2020

Liverpool have [announced](https://twitter.com/lfc/status/1200398874676015104?s=21) that Fabinho suffered ligament damage in his ankle during the 1-1 draw with Napoli and as such, he will be out of action until the New Year.

In an announcement on the club’s official website, the Reds confirmed that Fabinho suffered the injury after falling awkwardly during a challenge and having had the ankle scanned and assessed, it has been confirmed that he has suffered ligament damage.

Liverpool have a very busy schedule coming up between now and the New Year, with six Premier League games, a crucial Champions League game away to Salzburg and two fixtures at the Club World Cup in Qatar.

The Reds also have a League Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa, although Fabinho wasn’t going to feature in that anyway.

The likelihood is that the Brazilian will miss most of January too, with a six-to-eight week lay off expected.

Losing Fabinho will be a huge blow for Liverpool in such a busy period. He’s been one of the Reds’ best players this season and whilst the likes of Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum can play in the ‘number six role’, none of them do it quite as well as Fabinho.
