# Liverpool confirm the signing of young goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of promising young goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom.

[As reported on the club’s official website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/academy/343987-liverpool-sign-goalkeeper-ben-winterbottom), the 17-year-old joins the club from Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

Winterbottom is now expected to battle for a starting place in the Reds’ various academy teams.

He was named on the bench during the U18’s ‘mini-derby’ against Everton over the weekend, kicking off his Liverpool career with a win over the club’s local rivals.

The former Blackburn man is clearly a player that the Reds have had their eyes on for some time, with the 17-year-old impressing during previous appearances against the club.

Winterbottom is the latest younger to join the club’s youth ranks, with Liverpool keen to keep one eye the future.

While it is far too early to suggest whether or not Liverpool’s latest recruit is good enough to one day play in the first-team squad, he certainly becomes a player to look out for in the future.
