# Liverpool dealt potential blow in attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe

Liverpool have been dealt a potential blow in their attempts to sign [Kylian Mbappe](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/11/18/liverpool-willing-to-fight-real-madrid-to-sign-kylian-mbappe/), with the Frenchman claiming he could stay put at Paris Saint-Germain.

The 22-year-old’s future is up in the air, with his current PSG deal [expiring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/profil/spieler/342229) at the end of next season.

That means the Ligue 1 champions may only be able to sell the [£162million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/profil/spieler/342229) forward for a huge fee this summer, with Liverpool and Real Madrid [reported](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-manager-want-to-coach-star-next-season-klopp-has-direct-line-with-player/) to be the front-runners.

In an interview with [https://www.tf1.fr/tf1/telefoot](https://www.tf1.fr/tf1/telefoot)*[Telefoot](https://www.tf1.fr/tf1/telefoot)* \[via journalist Fabrizio Romano on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1352743836456509440?s=20)\], however, Mbappe hinted that he is happy to stay put at PSG:

> We are talking with the club, I am also reflecting on it. If I sign it will be to invest myself long term here. I feel good here. I will soon have to make a decision. If I extend, it’s so that I stay.

This would be a blow to Liverpool’s hopes of bringing in the French superstar this summer, should he be a genuine target.

Mbappe is widely considered [one of the world’s best players](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/goal-50-2020-the-best-50-players-in-the-world/1drx0x11z7i8a17j14njsth0ew#1jelbigu635xz1ur24cqy6tqle) currently, with his age meaning he could be at the top for around a decade.

He has already [scored 106 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/alletore/spieler/342229) in just 147 appearances for PSG, as well as 16 in 39 games for France.

If Liverpool can’t get Mbappe, it will be interesting to see if they turn their attention to Borussia Dortmund striker [Erling Haaland](https://readliverpoolfc.com/?p=112109) instead – arguably the other [most exciting](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/borussia-dortmund/story/4226109/why-dortmund-star-erling-haaland-could-become-the-worlds-best-footballer) young player on the planet at the moment.

The Reds have been [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-news-erling-haaland-19358652) with a sensational move for the Norwegian, so it may be one to keep an eye on.
