# Liverpool fans begrudge Fabrizio Romano’s transfer suggestion

Some [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/28/peter-crouch-believes-liverpool-will-finish-above-man-united-this-season/) fans have been bemoaning a bemusing update from reputable Italian journalist [Fabrizio Romano](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/21/van-dijk-fabinho-priority-contract-extensions-liverpool/) on his [*Here We Go* podcast](https://www.patreon.com/herewegopodcast) this week.

Many Kopites have been waiting with bated breath on any possible centre-back arrival this month as [Jurgen Klopp’s side suffer](https://www.skysports.com/liverpool-results) the effects of long-term injuries to [Virgil van Dijk](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/27/liverpool-scouts-shocked-at-obvious-solution-avoidance/) and [Joe Gomez](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/415749-joe-gomez-injury-update).

On the possibility of the Reds bringing in a much-needed central defender this month, Romano said: “They are quiet on the situations of their centre backs. Now, they are in a better situation.”

That better situation has been accepted as the return to fitness of Joel Matip, notorious for his [unreliable fitness record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joel-matip/verletzungen/spieler/82105). The Cameroonian is undoubtedly [among the best in his position](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/368118-joel-matip-named-pfa-player-of-the-month-for-september#:~:text=Joel%20Matip%20has%20been%20named,prize%20following%20an%20online%20vote.) in the league on his day, but his day is often closely followed by an injury layoff.

These Reds, who are pining for a defensive signing, have reacted to the questionable suggestion of a ‘better situation’ from Romano…
