# Liverpool fans believe Coutinho is angling for a return to Anfield

Philippe Coutinho’s Liverpool exit was a sliding doors moment, not only in his career, but the Reds’ history.

The Brazilian [departed](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/06/philippe-coutinho-join-barcelona-142m-deal-liverpool) for Barcelona in January 2018, seemingly in order to enhance his chances of winning trophies.

Instead, since leaving Anfield, Liverpool have reached back-to-back Champions League finals, [winning the latter](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48368443), and also clinching [Club World Cup](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/025a-0e9f8fe852b8-ff94b0553a0e-1000--club-world-cup-firmino-wins-final-for-liverpool/?referrer=%2fuefachampionsleague%2fnews%2fnewsid%3d2636636) glory.

On top of that, Jurgen Klopp’s side are now [22 points clear](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) at the top of the Premier League with 13 matches remaining this season.

There have been [rumours](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/10/liverpool-and-rivals-interested-in-signing-coutinho-in-cut-price-deal/) suggesting Coutinho could be in line for a return to Liverpool this summer, having fallen out of favour on loan at Bayern Munich, as well as at Barca.

In an interview with *[Sports Illustrated](https://www.si.com/soccer/2020/02/11/philippe-coutinho-bayern-munich-brazil)*, the 27-year-old spoke warmly about the Reds, choosing not to mention a potential return:

> Liverpool is flying, and it doesn’t surprise me. We’ve seen it already last year when it won the Champions League, but I’m also not surprised because of their fantastic squad and manager.

> I am so happy for them, because I have so many friends there, former teammates–so I’m just so happy for them–but that’s all. I don’t look back. I took another path, and now I am on another journey, much like everyone else.

> I’m focused entirely–just like them – on reaching my dreams. I’m happy with what I did in the past, and now I can only look forward.

Despite this, some of these Liverpool supporters believe Coutinho is still angling for a move back to his former club, pining for them after leaving two years ago.
