# Liverpool fans despair at ‘terrible’ Sadio Mane performance

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/28/mark-lawrenson-backs-free-scoring-liverpool-for-epl-victory/) suffered an unwelcome defeat at the hands of Leicester City as the Reds attempted to keep pace at the top of the Premier League.

In truth, Jurgen Klopp’s side [fell way short of their usual standards](https://www.skysports.com/liverpool-results) at the King Power Stadium and Ademola Lookman’s second-half strike was enough to earn all three points for the hosts.

Despite struggling for rhythm, Mohamed Salah did [squander the chance](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12505118/leicester-1-0-liverpool-mohamed-salahs-saved-penalty-costs-the-reds-as-ademola-lookman-scores-the-winner) to open the scoring from the spot before hitting the bar from the rebound.

But, it was the Egyptian’s wing partner Sadio Mane that came in for criticism as the 29-year-old [wasted a golden opportunity](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TctwXJ4gpY&feature=onebox) when one on one with Kasper Schmeichel and generally suffered throughout the contest.

After the match, a host of supporters took to social media to lament the [6.70 Sofascore rated](https://www.sofascore.com/player/sadio-mane/217704) display.

So far this season Mane has [scored nine times and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sadio-mane/leistungsdaten/spieler/200512) in 26 appearances – failing to provide a direct goal contribution in his last nine outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Mane [wasn’t the only one](https://www.sofascore.com/liverpool-leicester-city/GU) miles off the level required on this occasion.

Almost to a man the Reds were below their best and it showed in the result.

However, the Senegalese ace is certainly suffering from a [lack of form](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sadio-mane/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/200512/saison/2021/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/31) and perhaps confidence akin to a similar dip last season.

With just the Chelsea game to come before Klopp loses the [£72million valued star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sadio-mane/marktwertverlauf/spieler/200512) to AFCON, Kopites will hope either event recaptures the best of a key component.
