# Liverpool fans discuss potential move for free agent Sokratis

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/20/liverpool-fans-want-steven-caulker-back-klopp-twitter-quip/) may have been presented with a solution to their current defensive dilemma as Arsenal defender [Sokratis Papastathopoulos](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/14/fans-bewildered-fabrizio-romano-confirms-sokratis-offer/), or just Sokratis for those without fluent Greek, had his [contract terminated](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/transfer-news/exclusive-arsenal-agree-terminate-sokratis-19663201) by mutual consent.

The 32-year-old, who [played under Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/sokratis-papastathopoulos-borussia-dortmund-colossus-greece-manchester-united-478116.jsp) has had his time at the Emirates Stadium brought to an end with immediate effect and, having already been [linked by Fabrizio Romano](https://www.rousingthekop.com/2021/01/13/report-liverpool-offered-arsenal-defender-sokratis-no-decision-yet/), the Reds could capitalise.

Despite not making a [single Premier League appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sokratis/leistungsdaten/spieler/34322/plus/0?saison=2020) this term, just last season Sokratis [remained a pivotal part](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sokratis/leistungsdaten/spieler/34322/plus/0?saison=2019) of the Gunners’ defence.

In normal circumstances, the release of the out of favour Greek defender would pass through Liverpool’s remit without so much as a second glance. However, with [central defenders currently in short supply](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-injury-news-latest-list-alisson-thiago-alexander-arnold-robertson-henderson-780156) at Anfield, many Kopites are weighing up the pros and cons of signing Sokratis until the end of the campaign.
