# Liverpool fans euphoric over Sven Botman links

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/23/liverpool-fans-react-ian-doyle-january-transfer-claim/) have been linked with Lille centre-back [Sven Botman](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/23/liverpool-contact-sven-botman-agent-transfer-rumours/) this week by [Foot Mercato](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/liverpool-made-contact-for-sven-botman-in-november/) and it has certainly had many Kopites talking.

The 20-year-old has been tipped to be the man to solve the Reds ongoing defensive injury crisis which has seen Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez [ruled out for the majority of the season](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12130212/joe-gomez-and-virgil-van-dijk-injuries-puts-huge-stress-on-liverpool-squad-says-jamie-redknapp).

Botman only arrived at the Ligue 1 club in the summer from Dutch giants Ajax and has [impressed](https://www.sofascore.com/player/sven-botman/910046) in his [16 domestic appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.com/sven-botman/leistungsdaten/spieler/361093) to date. Lille have conceded the [fewest goals in the French top flight](https://www.skysports.com/ligue-1-table) and the Dutchman has more than played his part in that impressive feat.

The [impending financial crisis](https://www.ft.com/content/8a2f2696-fd2d-4e02-a838-2f537b1aea28) in French football means that Lille may be forced to sell their prized assets – potentially at less than their perceived value.

These Reds fans have got wind of the speculation and have reacted with glee, with one fan viewing Botman as a “Virgil successor” in reference to his Dutch centre-back colleague at Anfield…
