# Liverpool fans react as Naby Keita returns to training

[Naby Keita](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/27/liverpool-fans-bemoan-naby-keitas-continued-absence-from-reds-squad/) has endured constant battles [with injury](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/424051-jurgen-klopp-on-fabinho-injury-timescale-and-naby-keita-fitness) and fitness since his arrival at [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/03/liverpool-fans-delighted-diogo-jota-returns-to-training/)in 2018.

Whilst few have questioned the [Guinean midfielder’s ability](https://totalfootballanalysis.com/player-analysis/naby-keita-liverpool-tactical-analysis-2), pleas for the 25-year-old’s [continued fitness](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-naby-keita-injury-goal-19618168) have thus far fallen on deaf ears, including recently as the former RB Leipzig man [sits out](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/424051-jurgen-klopp-on-fabinho-injury-timescale-and-naby-keita-fitness) another set of fixtures.

The optimism surrounding the impact of Keita was perhaps heightened more than most incoming singings as the [Reds sealed the deal](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41075272) a year before the player arrived at Anfield.

Since his debut in the [resounding 4-0 victory over West Ham](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3050171) on the opening day of the 2018/19 season, Keita has [appeared just 49 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/302215/plus/0?saison=&verein=31&liga=&wettbewerb=GB1&pos=&trainer_id=) in the subsequent 96 Premier League fixtures.
