# Liverpool fans overjoyed as Virgil van Dijk returns to Merseyside

Many [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/15/ezri-konsa-liverpool-transfer-rumours-david-ornstein-athletic/) fans have taken to social media to welcome [Virgil van Dijk](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/15/huge-boost-for-liverpool-as-virgil-van-dijk-steps-up-injury-recovery/) back to Merseyside as the injured Dutchman heads back to the Reds’ AXA training centre to continue his rehabilitation.

The 29-year-old had previously been recovering in Dubai after undergoing surgery to repair [cruciate ligament damage](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/412585-virgil-van-dijk-knee-injury-surgery) he suffered against Everton four months ago.

However, the [award-winning](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48065752) centre-back has [headed back to Liverpool’s Kirkby home](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/virgil-van-dijk-steps-up-19836065) to continue his comeback, although it remains [unlikely that he will feature again](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/424649-klopp-virgil-van-dijk-unlikely-to-play-again-this-season#:~:text=J%C3%BCrgen%20Klopp%20today%20clarified%20that,is%20undergoing%20a%20rehabilitation%20programme.) this season.

Having [led the way](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=363&ha=-1) in pursuit of Premier League title retention in the early weeks of the season, Van Dijk’s absence, compounded by [further injuries](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php), has seen Liverpool [tumble down the table](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=363&ha=-1) in drastic fashion.

This has left some Kopites searching for even the [smallest iota of positivity](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool/jurgen-klopp-van-dijk-injury-update-b1796349.html) ever since the Dutch defender trudged off at Goodison Park, and his return to the camp has offered a lift to many fans.

Here’s a pick of the reactions from Twitter, with many Reds “delighted” to see Van Dijk back among the squad in a move which some Kopites feel could “boost morale” within the camp…
