# Liverpool fans bemoan Thiago’s likely injury absence against Man City

Some Liverpool fans have been left disheartened by Thiago’s likely absence for the Reds’ clash with Manchester City this weekend.

The champions take on their biggest Premier League title rivals on Sunday afternoon, making the trip to the Etihad Stadium for a huge match.

Jurgen Klopp’s team sit [top of the table](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table), five points clear of 10th-placed City, who have a game in hand on Liverpool. It highlights the importance of the weekend meeting, with the Reds well aware that they can open up a healthy gap with a win.

It looks as though they will have to make do without Thiago, though, after the Spaniard [didn’t train](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/11/05/thiago-misses-liverpool-training-again-ahead-of-man-city-clash/) again on Thursday. The 29-year-old was nowhere to be seen, suggesting he still hasn’t overcome the injury inflicted on him by Richarlison in last month’s Merseyside derby.

It means Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum will likely be partnered by Curtis Jones or Naby Keita at the Etihad, although James Milner is also an option against his former club.

Klopp is yet to officialy rule Thiago out of the game, however, and if he is suddenly deemed fit enough to feature, starting him makes perfect sense, such is his level of influence.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter have been bemoaning his continued absence, with one fan calling him “another Aquilani” in reference to the [injury-plagued former Anfield flop](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/whatever-happened-alberto-aquilani-liverpool-6035206):

> Got to be concerned about Thiago now, he was in light training at the start of last week and still not in full? Hope he hasn’t reacted badly to the light training.
