# Liverpool fans react as Michael Oliver is confirmed as Merseyside derby referee

Some Liverpool supporters are happy with the decision to [name](https://www.premierleague.com/news/1859796?sf238748547=1) Michael Oliver as referee for the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool make the trip to Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime, knowing a win will draw them level on points with Everton.

It has been a perfect start to the season for the Blues, who may fancy their chances of winning a derby for the first time since 2010.

Liverpool will need to be much improved from the shock 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa in their last outing, or risk losing the bragging rights to their local rivals.

Given the fierce nature of the rivalry between the two clubs, a strong referee is required for the game.

Oliver is widely seen as one of the best in the business, if not the best, meaning the fixture should be in safe hands.

That’s certainly the general consensus on Twitter, with these Liverpool supporters providing their thoughts on the appointment.
