# Liverpool fans react to being drawn Champions League round of 16 tie with RB Leipzig

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/14/jamie-carragher-pays-tribute-to-former-liverpool-manager-gerard-houllier/)have been drawn against[RB Leipzig in the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2020/dec/14/champions-league-last-16-draw-live) – and plenty of Reds fans have been reacting on social media.

The first leg of the tie will take place in Germany in mid-February with the second leg at Anfield owing to qualifying as group winners –[dates will be announced shortly](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/0263-10f40a367baa-d393e355b55a-1000--champions-league-round-of-16-draw-all-you-need-to-know/).

[Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/13/liverpool-fans-react-as-jurgen-klopp-provides-injury-update-on-joel-matip/) will pit his considerable wits against a [young, up and coming German compatriot](https://footballwhispers.com/blog/premier-leagues-next-great-managers-julian-nagelsmann/)in Leipzig manager in Julian Nagelsmann.

The Bundesliga side[sit third in their league](https://www.skysports.com/bundesliga-table) and qualified for the round of 16 as [runners-up from Group H](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/standings/) behind PSG following last week’s victory over Manchester United.

This encounter will see Reds midfielder [Naby Keita face his former club](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41075272) whilst former Liverpool goalkeeper Peter Gulasci is the German side’s number one.

This will be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs – mainly due to [last year’s Champions League semi-finalists](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53759778) only being [formed in 2009](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/german-bundesliga/story/4029702/why-rb-leipzig-is-the-most-hated-soccer-team-in-the-bundesliga).
