# Liverpool fans react to Jurgen Klopp’s optimistic Virgil van Dijk update

Positive news on the injury front has been rationed this season from a [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/21/quiz-name-the-liverpool-goalscorers-from-previous-burnley-clashes/) perspective as the Reds have [suffered more than anyone](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-injury-news-latest-list-alisson-thiago-alexander-arnold-robertson-henderson-780156) with blows to key players.

As the prospect of playing out the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign without his [first-choice central defensive pairing](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joe-gomez-virgil-van-dijk-19270845) looms large for Jurgen Klopp, the manager delivered a promising update over [Virgil van Dijk](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/21/klopp-provides-really-promising-injury-update-van-dijk/) at least.

Despite being unable to put an exact timeframe on the 29-year-old’s potential return, [Klopp was upbeat](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/really-promising-liverpool-boss-klopp-offers-positive-van/1l4hgqxsf1xdm1x5u9dch9b46o) over the Netherlands captain and hopes have been raised among many fans that they may see Van Dijk in action again this season.

As per [Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/really-promising-liverpool-boss-klopp-offers-positive-van/1l4hgqxsf1xdm1x5u9dch9b46o), the Liverpool manager outlined:

> He looks really good. I spoke to him this morning on the phone, and he is in a really good mood. It’s all very promising, but I don’t know when he will be back.
>
> For sure there are still a lot of stages to go and to clear. I had this injury myself, so I know. But for the time we are in, and for how long he is out now, and the rehabilitation, he looks really, really promising.

The [archetypal ‘Rolls Royce’](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/van-dijk-rolls-royce-kompany-milner-man-city-liverpool/1in7c4fb43qd1qixijycuuzm0) among centre-backs has been a huge miss for the Premier League champions, if not in terms of shipping goals then certainly for the effect he has on those around him.

Plenty of Liverpool fans on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/LFC/status/1352020581370232833) have reacted to Klopp’s update and there’s almost universal optimism…
