# Liverpool forced to play two games in two days despite bid

Despite making a bid to the Premier League to seek an alteration to their schedule, Liverpool have failed in their attempts to avoid playing two matches in 46 hours during the Christmas period, [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/nov/16/liverpool-fail-in-bid-to-avoid-playing-two-matches-in-under-46-hours?CMP=share_btn_tw) have reported.

There was much outrage amongst Liverpool fans when the fixture list for the festive period was released, with the Reds scheduled to play Manchester City at Anfield for a 5.30PM kick-off on December 31st, before they make the long journey up north to take on Sunderland on January 2nd.

Liverpool made an attempt to have the starting time of the Sunderland game delayed in order to allow the players sufficient rest between the matches, but their efforts have been rebuffed.

The reason for Liverpool’s late kick-off against Manchester City is due to BT Sport opting to select the game as one that they want to televise and it looks as though, despite the gruelling physical demands in prospect, Jurgen Klopp’s men will have to play two games in under two days.
