# Liverpool have just been told they have no chance of signing midfielder

**Liverpool are expected to remain active in the upcoming transfer windows to fine-tune their squad under Andoni Iraola.**

The Reds signed four new players in the summer but still have a few holes to fill, mainly in midfield.

Julian Ward has replaced Richard Hughes as the club’s new sporting director and the Englishman knows the system inside out, so he will be working diligently behind the scenes to find new players.

A new No.6 is the need of the hour for Liverpool, but if reports are to be believed, it won’t be Barcelona’s Marc Bernal.

## Barcelona’s Marc Bernal won’t join Liverpool

The young midfielder has made quite the impression under Hansi Flick and is well and truly a first-team player now.

Liverpool’s interest in Bernal has been confirmed by [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/liverpool/marc-bernal-barcelona-agreement-reached-liverpool-blow), but the report also claims that he is close to signing a new deal at Barcelona.

His new contract is set to run until the summer of 2031, with a release clause believed to be in the region of €500m set to be added to protect his value.

And obviously, it goes without saying that the release clause figure effectively puts Bernal’s departure to Liverpool – or any other club – beyond reasonable doubt.

The deal is set to be formalised in the coming weeks, so Barcelona are set to retain one of their biggest talents.

Liverpool still need a new defensive midfielder, so they will now have to look elsewhere.
