# Liverpool have made ‘concrete approach’ for right-back Nuno Mendes

Liverpool have made a ‘concrete approach’ for Sporting CP starlet Nuno Mendes, according to both *[Record](https://www.record.pt/)* and *[O Jogo](https://www.ojogo.pt/)* \[via *[Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-made-concrete-approach-offer-player-club-preparing-transfer/)*\].

The Reds have been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/04/liverpool-and-juventus-could-lock-horns-to-sign-nuno-mendes/) with the left-back in the recent past, with the 18-year-old a highly-rated prospect, even being called a [wonderkid](https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/nuno-mendes-wonderkid-left-back-ronaldinho-skills-man-utd/1t3oajpz9nogv1bzx6to8ng2t6) before.

It is claimed that Liverpool have seen a €22million bid for Mendes rejected, with €45million the amount Sporting would have accepted at the time.

The Portuguese giants now want to seal a new contract for the youngster, however, putting a buyout clause of €70million in the deal.

This would clearly make life tougher for Liverpool, giving Sporting a potential upper hand in negotiations, ahead of a possible summer deal.

That being said, if the Reds believe Mendes is special enough to pay a huge sum for money for, Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards could go for it.

The pair don’t buy for the sake of it, but if a great player comes along that fits the Anfield model perfectly, they will do all they can to bring him in.

Liverpool look well-stock at left-back, though, with Andy Robertson arguably the [best in the world](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/robertson-best-left-back-in-the-world-chelsea-filipe-luis/jqae9bkevxn1ktlaq5op34bt) in his position, and Kostas Tsimikas a solid backup who is still adjusting to life on Merseyside.
