# Liverpool have no interest in Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool have absolutely no interest in bringing Philippe Coutinho back to Anfield this summer, according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

It was reported last week that Coutinho had specifically asked his former club to bring him back to Anfield this summer but Balague, Speaking on a podcast with Spanish outlet [Sport](https://www.sport.es/en/news/barca/askguillem-its-not-true-that-liverpool-want-coutinho-loan-8002365), said:

> His representatives believe Newcastle will make an attempt to get him because he is the kind of the player they can have as I have said before, they should go for players who are finishing their contract like Cavani. The biggest effort Coutinho’s representatives are doing is towards the Premier League and the idea is for him to go to the Premier League. There has been talk of Arsenal but nothing has arrived from them, and also talk of going back to Liverpool on loan. No truth whatsoever. So we don’t need to talk about it any more, do we? Liverpool are not interested, no offer has existed and I understand that the work the representatives have to do is to make it look like there is an auction but there isn’t such a thing at the moment.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

As much as Barcelona want to get Coutinho off the wage bill, it looks like he won’t be joining Liverpool.

The Brazilian took a chance on making his dream move and despite some success, and the claiming of a league title medal, it’s fair to say that things haven’t exactly gone how he would have liked at Barca.

If he does move to Newcastle, a clear step down from Liverpool, then that could act as a warning to other current Reds stars that the grass isn’t always greener elsewhere and that leaving Anfield to join another European superpower might not always be the best option to take.
