# Liverpool in talks with Ajax centre-back De Ligt

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has claimed that Liverpool are speaking to Ajax centre-back Matthijs De Ligt.

Balague claims that Liverpool have been in talks with the defender as they look to add him to their squad this summer.

Liverpool are looking to strengthen their side after missing out on the Premier League title this season and have identified De Ligt as a target.

The teenage centre-back has been impressive for Ajax this season and led his side to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

De Ligt has made 117 appearances for Ajax, despite only being 19, and has already been capped 15 times by Holland – where he has mostly played alongside Liverpool centre-back Virgil Van Dijk.

[As reported by The Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-talks-ajax-defender-matthijs-16297728), Balague said the club have **“**been talking to him” in an attempt to bring him to England.

The report also claims that Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United are all also interested.
