# Liverpool ‘in the footsteps’ to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/23/gary-gillespie-believes-nat-phillips-could-be-eyeing-liverpool-exit/) are reportedly in line to compete for the signature of Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland next summer.

The Reds have been [credited with an interest](https://talksport.com/football/792199/erling-haaland-stats-transfer-interest-man-utd-natural-dad-borussia-dortmund/) in the 21-year-old striker previously, along with a majority of the elite clubs in Europe.

Now, according to a report from [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/), as cited by [PA Dugout](https://twitter.com/PAdugout/status/1440941568479879170) on Twitter, the Anfield club are competing with Barcelona in pursuit of the Norwegian star.

The report claims that Liverpool are indeed ‘in the footsteps’ to sign the [15 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/nationalmannschaft/spieler/418560/verein_id/3440) ace.

Last season, Haaland netted a remarkable [27 goals and provided eight assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/418560/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/L1/verein/16) in 28 Bundesliga outings.

Already the Leeds-born powerhouse has scored [11 goals and added four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdaten/spieler/418560) in just eight appearances this term.

Signing Haaland would be a [revolutionary transfer](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/borussia-dortmund-watzke-difficult-to-keep-erling-haaland-transfer) for whichever club can pull it off.

Valued at an eye-watering £117million and under contract until 2024 in Germany ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/marktwertverlauf/spieler/418560)), the goalscoring phenomenon would be worth almost every penny of expenditure.

Reportedly available for a [£68million release clause](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/does-erling-haaland-have-a-transfer-release-clause-which/5fya6eqnr0bk1loqqkxmhbjwh) next summer, Liverpool would be wise to be at the front of that particular queue.

Jurgen Klopp is likely to seek a replacement for [Roberto Firmino](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/21/tony-cascarino-tips-roberto-firmino-to-depart-liverpool-first/) as the next phase of this squad evolves, Haaland should be under serious consideration.
