# Liverpool ‘in touch’ with Nikola Milenkovic

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/23/liverpool-fans-fume-at-roberto-firmino-after-shock-social-media-antics/) are reportedly interested in Fiorentina defender [Nikola Milenkovic](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/19/report-liverpool-join-front-row-in-nikola-milenkovic-pursuit/), according to [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/) (via [Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1401330/Liverpool-Man-Utd-Nikola-Milenkovic-transfer-news-SNT)).

The Serbian centre-back looks set to be embroiled in a transfer tug-of-war this summer as [Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund join the pursuit](https://twitter.com/Sky_MaxB/status/1363896325318787075?s=20).

Milenkovic’s [contract expires in the summer of 2022](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/profil/spieler/413507) and the Reds are believed to have made their feelings known towards the player’s representatives. [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/) claimed hat the 23-year-old is ‘destined’ to move to the Premier League and this summer could present the final opportunity for Fiorentina to demand a premium fee for [their 6 foot 4 powerhouse](https://www.infogol.net/en/player/nikola-milenkovic/5759).

Milenkovic, who is valued at £25.2m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/profil/spieler/413507), has appeared in [all but two of the Viola’s Serie A matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/leistungsdaten/spieler/413507) this season and has earned an average [Sofascore match rating of 7.07](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nikola-milenkovic/836168) for his efforts.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

It remains to be seen whether deadline day arrivals [Ozan Kabak or Ben Davies](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/feb/01/liverpool-sign-ozan-kabak-and-ben-davies) will have a long term future at Anfield. Kabak is essentially on a six-month trial before his [loan deal expires](<https://www.goal.com/en/news/liverpool-complete-loan-deal-for-schalke-defender-ozan-kabak/tjxa7dz71ule1vxesvzt3qope#:~:text=Liverpool%20have%20completed%20the%20deadline,%C2%A318%20million%20(%2425m).>); and having [yet to make his Reds debut](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-davies/profil/spieler/257097) since stepping up from Championship side Preston, Davies remains an [unknown quantity at the elite level](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-davies/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/257097).

Therefore, signing a centre-back is likely to be high on the list of priorities this summer given the [injury problems throughout this campaign](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-injury-crisis-excuse-more-19768465), and Milkenovic [would be the ideal candidate](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/319785/Show/Nikola-Milenkovic).

This season, the Serbia international has won a higher percentage ([67%](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nikola-milenkovic/836168)) of duels than Liverpool’s three absent frontline centre-backs – Joe Gomez ([53%](https://www.sofascore.com/player/joe-gomez/318927)), Joel Matip ([64%](https://www.sofascore.com/player/joel-matip/51501)) and Virgil van Dijk ([63%](https://www.sofascore.com/player/virgil-van-dijk/151545)).
