# Liverpool interested in Matthias Ginter

Liverpool are showing an interest in signing Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter in the summer.

[According to Calcio Mercato,](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/liverpool-piace-un-difensore-tedesco-66789) Liverpool are thinking about potentially replacing Joel Matip at the end of the season and are looking at Ginter as his replacement.

The 25-year-old has made over 50 Bundesliga appearances for Monchengladbach since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

He has also been capped 23 times by Germany at international level and was part of the squad which won the World Cup in 2014, although he did not feature in any game during the competition.

Virgil Van Dijk has been the mainstay in the Liverpool defence this season, but Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have all slotted in alongside him at points.

Calcio Mercato now claim that Liverpool are looking to sign Ginter as they potentially look to nail down that position next to Van Dijk in the side.
