# Liverpool join the race to sign Grealish this summer

Liverpool are in the race to sign Jack Grealish this summer, rivalling Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea in the process.

That’s according to *[Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/manchester-united-3-rivali-per-grealish-63860)*, who name the Reds as a potential suitor for the Aston Villa star.

Grealish has stood out as one of the most influential players in the Premier League this season, almost single-handedly dragging Villa through games at times.

United are still seen as the front-runners to sign the £70 million-rated midfielder, however.

While I rate Grealish as a player, I have serious doubts over whether he is worth such a big sum of money. The 24-year-old is yet to prove himself in top European competition and is still awaiting his debut for England.

Liverpool are at a stage where they need to sign players who can come in and shine for arguably the best club team in the world – buying Grealish would be a risk, in that respect.

He could easily be a star for the Reds, but equally, but he could go to United and be another overpriced British player, much like Harry Maguire, who is good, but probably not worthy of being the [most expensive](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/aug/05/harry-maguire-joins-manchester-united-as-worlds-most-expensive-defender) centre-back of all time.

As a comparison, someone like [Liverpool-linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/19/liverpool-claimed-to-have-made-e125m-bid-for-havertz/) Kai Havertz may be four years younger, but he is already an established midfielder for Germany and Bayer Leverkusen, playing in both the Champions League and Europa League regularly.
