# Liverpool legend claims Neymar could never play for Klopp

Liverpool legend John Barnes has hit out at Neymar for being “lazy” and claims that the Brazilian star would never get to play under Jurgen Klopp, according to a report on the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1019791/Liverpool-news-Neymar-Jurgen-Klopp-John-Barnes-Champions-League).

Liverpool boss Klopp loves his players to have a high work rate and he encourages his side to play with intensity and commitment.

Neymar looked lethargic at Anfield for Paris Saint Germain in the opening match of the Champions League group stage.

The French champions were well under par but almost left Merseyside with a point, only for Neymar’s compatriot Roberto Firmino to score a late winner.

Barnes was critical of the world’s most expensive player and when speaking about whether he could play for Liverpool he said:

> It depends on who the manager is – not with Jurgen Klopp. I saw the interview Klopp gave last night, he spoke about the defensive work of the whole team, meaning the front three as well.

> A lot of people say Neymar is the best in the world, which may suit PSG or Man City or Barcelona. But regardless of how good he is, there is no way he would suit Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.

> I was disappointed with Neymar and Mbappe. I thought they were so lazy when they didn’t have the ball, they didn’t help their team at all.

The 26-year-old did play a major role in helping his side equalise but besides that, he found it hard to get into the game and his body language was poor throughout the encounter.
