# Liverpool linked with Gelson Martins once again

At one stage in the summer, it looked like Gelson Martins was close to becoming a Liverpool player but in the end, the Portuguese star ended up staying at Sporting.

The Reds were apparently put off by Sporting’s refusal to sell the 22-year-old for anything less than his £53.5m release clause and as such, they turned their attention elsewhere.

However, as reported by Portuguese outlet [A Bola](https://talksport.com/football/transfer-report-liverpool-face-competition-race-sporting-lisbon-winger-gelson-martins#uMuB1Dw3f7rl0jhd.99), the Reds have still been tracking the winger and could well make a move to sign him, wither in January or the summer.

With talk that Daniel Sturridge could be looking for a way out of the club in January to boost his World Cup chances, Liverpool could go in for another forward player.

Whilst Martins isn’t an out and out striker, he would fit into the front three and give Jurgen Klopp another weapon if he does end up letting Sturridge leave.

Juventus are also said to be keen on Martins so even if the Reds want him, the likelihood is they will have to meet his release clause as there is no chance of getting him on the cheap.
