# Liverpool May Have To Sell To Buy Thiago

Liverpool are significantly interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago and have already held talks with his representatives, according to the ever-reliable [Melissa Reddy for the Independent.](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpool-thiago-alcantara-transfer-news-bayern-munich-contract-a9678516.html)

However, the Red may need to move players on before any deal can go ahead.

Jurgen Klopp is already blessed with plenty options in the centre of midfield, and despite being interested in the Bayern Munich man, he may need to sell one of his current options in order to bring in the Spaniard.

Whilst Klopp has been open in his admiration of Thiago’s abilities in the past, it seems much of the speculation surrounding the transfer saga has stemmed from the midfielder. He has made no effort to hide the fact he wants to leave Bavaria, with Liverpool his preferred destination.

The Spain international, who will play in the Champions League final against PSG on Sunday, is in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena, however, it seems as though he wants to leave this summer.

It is believed any transfer would cost the club around £30m, although the Reds are expected to try to negotiate that figure down if they do decide to make a move.

Even at a perceived reasonable price, it seems Klopp may have to part ways with at least one of his midfield options.

Currently, the squad boasts Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Gini Wijnaldum as well as the returning Marko Grujic as available options.

Clearly a plethora of central-midfielders sees the Reds squad blessed, although adding Thiago to that list could be viewed as overkill.

There is growing speculation Gini Wijnaldum could be the fall guy as he also enters the last season of his contract with the club, reports have suggested new Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman wants to take him to the Camp Nou.
