# Liverpool midfielder in advanced negotiations over new contract after impressing Andoni Iraola

**It’s safe to say Andoni Iraola has made a positive impact at Liverpool since taking over the reigns from Arne Slot.**

After an underwhelming 2025-26 campaign, most of the Reds’ big guns like Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister have returned to their best under the Spaniard.

In terms of the young players, one of the biggest beneficiaries of Iraola’s arrival has been Trey Nyoni, who has quickly become an important first-team player.

And now, [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7752744/2026/11/04/trey-nyoni-liverpool-contract-extension-talks/) confirm that the youngster is in advanced talks to sign a new deal at the club.

## Trey Nyoni in contract renewal talks with Liverpool

Gregg Evans confirms that positive talks are ongoing between the club and the youngster, with a resolution expected to be found soon.

An excerpt from the article reads: “Trey Nyoni is in advanced talks with Liverpool over a contract extension.

“The 19-year-old has been discussing his future with the club for months and there’s hope a breakthrough will follow soon. While a new deal has yet to be finalised, there is optimism an agreement will be reached.

“Liverpool are keen to reward the young midfielder with fresh terms as he continues to impress under Andoni Iraola.”

The report also confirms that Liverpool rejected a 30m bid from Nottingham Forest for Nyoni in the summer transfer window.

Since then, the 19-year-old has been a regular for Iraola, which goes to show just how highly he is rated by the manager.
