# Liverpool miss out as Hugill agrees to join United

Liverpool were one of the clubs interested in signing Sunderland star Joe Hugill, the player who looks to have agreed a move to Manchester United.

According to a report from [The Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/man-utd-defy-financial-crisis-22001974), Arsenal, Everton, Leeds, Liverpool, Tottenham and Wolves had all shown an interest in the teenage striker, but they’ve all missed out on his signature as he’s agreed to sign for United.

The Red Devils have reportedly agreed a £250,000 transfer fee with Sunderland for Hugill, and they’ve also agreed to pay the 16-year-old a salary of £1200-a-week.

Due to his age, Hugill’s professional deal with United won’t kick in until October, when he turns 17, but he will be their player and they’ll hope for him to develop and become a first-team player, following the path set by the likes of Marcus Rashford.

It’s no surprise to hear that Liverpool were in the mix for Hugill, given that the Reds have been keen to sign some of the best youngsters in England and across Europe.

However, despite their recent issues, Man United are still a huge club and it’s obvious that some players will sometimes choose to turn down moves to Anfield or elsewhere to join the Red Devils.

Hugill should be given every chance to succeed in United’s set up and it won’t be a huge surprise if he’s lining up to face Liverpool wearing a Man United shirt in the future.
