# Italian journalist says ‘an offer has come in’ from Liverpool for Inter Milan’s €70m-rated midfielder

It has been reported extensively over the last few weeks that Liverpool are in the market for a new midfielder.

This comes after the [departure of Georginio Wijnaldum](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/11/liverpool-wijnaldum-psg-departure/) at the start of the month after his contract ran down.

The Dutchman opted to join French giants PSG on a free transfer, which has now left a huge hole.

WIjnaldum became an important component of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield setup and will be difficult to replace.

However, the likes of [Youri Tielemans](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/15/liverpool-youri-tielemans-rumours/), [Saúl Ñíguez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/13/barcelona-rival-liverpool-for-saul/), and [Renato Sanches](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/12/liverpool-renato-sanches-stance/) have all been linked to fill the void.

According to Italian journalist [Marco Conterio](https://twitter.com/marcoconterio), the club has put in an offer for Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella…

Liverpool had [previously been linked with a move for Barella](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/02/virals-liverpool-ask-for-information-on-inter-milan-star-nicolo-barella/) but nothing concrete had surfaced.

The club had simply enquired over information on the 24-year-old, with events appearing to now progress.

Conterio’s news can be taken lightly, however, with him never breaking news on the club before and is a journalist unknown to Liverpool fans.

He claims that the club, along with Manchester United, have placed an offer but that it will cost upwards of €70m.

The price may be realistic, but the notion that Liverpool would be happy to pay this is questionable.

As we understand, the club are already having to [operate on limited finances](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/08/liverpool-summer-finance-struggles/) this summer.

Player sales will play a huge role for the club this summer in boosting their available funds for transfers.

Barella would be a fantastic signing but time will tell as to who the club may or may not opt for, with [signing a forward the named priority](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/14/liverpool-romano-saul-deal/) this summer.
