# Liverpool open contract talks with Joe Gomez

Liverpool have opened talks with the representatives of defender Joe Gomez about a contract extension, as per [Andy Hunter of The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/oct/25/xherdan-shaqiri-liverpool-serbia-switzerland-world-cup).

Gomez still has four years left on his contract at Liverpool but the Reds have shown in recent seasons that they are happy to reward players with new deals if they feel that they’ve outperformed their current ones.

The 21-year-old has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season and has also played extremely well for England and as such, the club are looking to sign him to a new contract on better terms.

The report suggests that negotiations are still at a very early stage with Gomez’s representatives, but there is no reason as to why the defender would reject a deal that would increase his salary.

Gomez has been a standout performer for the Reds, both at centre-back and right-back and Jurgen Klopp is said to be keen to reward him with a new deal.
