# Liverpool plan Takumi Minamino and Lucas Ocampos swap deal

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/22/pundit-reveals-concerns-over-roberto-firmino-after-wretched-everton-display/) could use [Takumi Minamino](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/17/sevilla-will-do-everything-possible-to-sign-takumi-minamino/) as a makeweight in an attempt to sign Sevilla winger [Lucas Ocampos](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/southampton-premiership/southampton-need-attacking-flair-in-form-of-lucas-ocampos/), according to a report from Spanish publication [La Razon](https://www.larazon.es/) (via [Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1400902/Liverpool-Sevilla-Lucas-Ocampos-Takumi-Minamino-deal-premier-league-transfer-news)).

The report claimed that the Reds are willing to use the Japan winger in a part-exchange deal in order to land Ocampos this summer.

A left winger by trade, the 26-year-old Argentine has become a key player for the La Liga side, helping them to [Europa League glory](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-ocampos/erfolge/spieler/189441) last year and already [contributing directly to 11 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-ocampos/leistungsdaten/spieler/189441) this season. Minamino, on the other hand, found [himself on the fringes](https://www.premierleague.com/players/12322/Takumi-Minamino/overview) at Anfield before being allowed to leave [on loan to Southampton](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11700/12206041/liverpool-transfer-news-takumi-minamino-joins-southampton-on-six-month-loan) for the remainder of the season.

Since arriving on the south coast, the Japanese forward, who was [described as ‘incredible’](https://www.instagram.com/p/CFiMmfbi7ZP/?utm_source=ig_embed) by former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique, has bagged two goals, including a [sublime finish](https://talksport.com/football/837346/takumi-minamino-chelsea-edouard-mendy-southampton-hasenhuttl-liverpool/) in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Despite his early success at St Mary’s and [Jurgen Klopp’s continued desire](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/klopp-explains-minamino-loan-exit-liverpool) to retain the 26-year-old for the future, Minamino’s career on Merseyside remains up for debate, and [Sevilla are the main protagonists](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/minamino-podria-hueco-liga-sevilla-salzburgo-liverpool-southampton-lopetegui-monchi-20210214.html) for a permanent move.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Allowing Minamino to leave, having only [signed him last January for £7.25m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11890345/takumi-minamino-liverpool-sign-red-bull-salzburg-midfielder), would perhaps go down as one of the few failures in recent times from the Anfield transfer department. However, with Ocampos having a [market value of £40.5m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-ocampos/marktwertverlauf/spieler/189441), Liverpool would almost certainly be keen to reduce any transfer fee required to land the Argentine.

Accustomed to operating in [Klopp’s preferred 4-3-3](https://breakingthelines.com/opinion/liverpools-4-3-3-vs-liverpools-4-2-3-1/) system, the Sevilla ace has become [famed for his intelligent movement](https://laligaanalysis.com/analysis/player-analysis/lucas-ocampos-2019-20-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics) and ability to interchange with his fellow strikers, as well as his [high levels of defensive contribution](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/115587/Show/Lucas-Ocampos) – all qualities which could endear him to the Reds.

With Roberto Firmino’s [downturn in form](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-roberto-firmino-problem-solution-19884410) and the defending Premer League champions’ [powers seemingly on the wane](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12225268/does-jurgen-klopp-need-to-change-approach-to-kickstart-zombie-like-liverpool-gary-nevilles-verdict-on-merseyside-derby-defeat), this summer is going to be crucial to introduce fresh blood.
