# Liverpool’s Raphinha interest could be boosted by reports from Italy

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/09/dayot-upamecano-set-to-choose-between-liverpool-chelsea-and-bayern-munich/) have [reportedly been scouting](https://sportwitness.co.uk/leeds-star-high-list-liverpool-scouts-next-season-impact-bielsas-team-hasnt-gone-unnoticed/) Leeds United winger [Raphinha](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/09/raphinha-high-on-the-list-of-liverpool-scouts-ahead-of-potential-move/) in the summer, and their hopes of landing him could be boosted as the Yorkshire side are already seeking out a replacement, according to Calciomercato \[via [Juve Live](https://www.juvelive.it/2021/02/08/calciomercato-juventus-premier-leeds-douglas-costa/)\].

The Brazilian only joined Leeds from Rennes in October for [£17m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54415316) but has quickly earned [plenty of plaudits](https://metro.co.uk/2021/02/09/leeds-united-news-marcelo-bielsa-praises-raphinha-for-stunning-skill-that-angered-gary-cahill-14047689/) with his flamboyant style and [high-intensity](https://totalfootballanalysis.com/player-analysis/raphinha-leeds-united-tactical-analysis-tactics-scout-report-premier-league) pressing.

According to Calciomercato \[via [Juve Live](https://www.juvelive.it/2021/02/08/calciomercato-juventus-premier-leeds-douglas-costa/)\], Marcelo Bielsa’s side have earmarked Juventus’ Douglas Costa as the man to replace Raphinha, who is said to be ‘departing’ for Liverpool.

A 24-year-old who [predominantly operates from the right wing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raphinha/leistungsdaten/spieler/411295), he rose to prominence during a spell in Portugal with Vitória de Guimarães when he scored [15 league goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raphinha/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/411295/plus/0/saison/2017/wettbewerb/PO1/verein/2420) in the 2017/18 season.

Having recently [been likened to](https://open.spotify.com/show/5i6ZBuSlcgtPWRdKsE4QH7) Argentina and PSG star Angel Di Maria by Leeds teammate Patrick Bamford; with [four goals and four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raphinha/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/411295/plus/0?saison=2020&verein=399&liga=&wettbewerb=GB1&pos=&trainer_id=) to his name in his first season in England, Raphinha is swiftly making a name for himself in the Premier League.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

The upcoming summer could be one of major intrigue at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to potentially earn back the status of [Premier League champions](https://www.premierleague.com/news/1697247), and signing Raphinha would be a major statement from the Reds, who undoubtedly need to strengthen their options in the final third.

With fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino suffering [regular dips in performance](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/firmino-form-worrying-carragher-and-fears-liverpool-striker/ttotcs5euuo710y2gyoncn80q) and the likes of Divock Origi simply [not making the grade](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/divock-origi-sent-dire-liverpool-message-told-transfer-essential-roberto-martinez), a high-quality alternative is required.

Judging by Raphinha’s recent [Firmino-esque skill](https://twitter.com/OptusSport/status/1358929353820803073) and having already [scored against the Reds’ Merseyside rivals Everton](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55025785) the Leeds man could be the ideal solution for the reigning English champions.
