# Liverpool reportedly eager to sign Gary Medel

Liverpool have made a surprise bid for Inter Milan’s defensive midfielder Gary Medel, according to [reports in Italy](https://www.corriere.it/sport/calcio/serie-a/2015-2016/notizie/calciomercato-juventus-sfida-milano-preme-brozovic-blocca-bentancur-ffd74e0c-6260-11e6-80ce-6e3612708f11.shtml).

Klopp watched the Chilean international, formerly of Cardiff City and Sevilla, at this summer’s Copa America, where he was named player of the tournament as his side ran out victorious against Argentina in the final.

Medel has notched over 70 appearances for Inter since his £9million transfer in 2014 and the Serie A side are reportedly willing to sell him for the right price.

It is understood that the Reds are willing to fork out up to £12 million for the 28-year old, with Klopp looking to add some experience to his midfield.

He is renowned for his impressive work rate and is also capable of playing centre back, potentially able to shield Liverpool’s notoriously unreliable defence, which shipped three goals in Sunday’s thrilling victory against Arsenal.

There are also rumours that Lucas Leiva, long pursued Turkish giants Galatasaray, could go the other way as part of the deal.

Although Liverpool have already signed five players this summer, their transfer dealings are far from over, with Christian Benteke and Mario Balotelli set to leave and the search for a new left-back ongoing.
