# Liverpool see ‘opportunity’ to revive transfer interest in David Neres

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/21/tony-cascarino-tips-roberto-firmino-to-depart-liverpool-first/) have been named as potential candidates to sign Ajax winger [David Neres](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/09/29/liverpool-keen-on-neres-would-he-be-a-good-signing-for-the-reds/).

Previously [linked](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/ajax-liverpool-interested-in-brazilian-winger-93551) with a move to Anfield, the 24-year-old is once again been touted with a move away from the Dutch Eredivisie leaders.

Despite previously being a key component in Holland, Neres has [struggled to recapture a leading role](https://www.sofascore.com/player/david-neres/850993) this season.

This had led to a report from Spanish outlet [AS](https://as.com/futbol/2021/09/20/internacional/1632137110_515776.html), as cited by [Express Sport](https://twitter.com/DExpress_Sport/status/1440249685650788371) on Twitter claiming that the Reds could seize their chance.

The initial report claims that the [twice capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-neres/nationalmannschaft/spieler/469822/verein_id/37018) Brazil Under 23 star could be a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah on Merseyside.

Recently, Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag [admitted](https://newsbeezer.com/netherlandseng/ten-hag-on-neres-future-see-if-there-is-perspective-for-all-players/) there was a chance Neres would leave the Dutch club during the summer, with Atletico Madrid and Sevilla reportedly keen.

Those moves failed to materialise and this season the Brazilian has [scored twice and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-neres/leistungsdaten/spieler/469822) in seven appearances – all goal contributions coming in a [9-0 rout](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-neres/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/469822/saison/2021/wettbewerb/NL1/verein/610) over Cambuur.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £24.3million and under contract in Holland until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-neres/marktwertverlauf/spieler/469822)), it appears imminently possible a move could be on the cards in the near future.

As a possible replacement for Salah, however, it’s [unlikely](https://fbref.com/en/stathead/player_comparison.cgi?show_form=1&request=1&sum=0&comp_type=by_type&dom_lg=1&player_id1=4f1e6a0b&p1yrfrom=2020-2021&player_id2=d70ce98e&p2yrfrom=2020-2021&player_id3=dea698d9&p3yrfrom=2020-2021&player_id4=e342ad68&p4yrfrom=2020-2021&player_id5=42fd9c7f&p5yrfrom=2020-2021&player_id6=a1d5bd30&p6yrfrom=2020-2021) that the skilful Brazilian would make the grade.

Albeit the Egyptian hadn’t necessarily set the world alight prior to his Anfield arrival, Neres’ [51 goals and 41 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-neres/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/469822) in 178 outings don’t smack of a player ready to take over that particular mantel.

No doubt an impressive record nevertheless, the Ajax star can also boast added versatility with his ability to [operate from both wings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-neres/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/469822) as well as a centrally.
