# Liverpool ‘seriously looking’ at summer move for Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool are ‘seriously’ looking at signing centre-back Ibrahima Konate this summer, according to the [https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-united/transfer-news-rb-leipzig-ibrahima-konate-b1799111.html](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-united/transfer-news-rb-leipzig-ibrahima-konate-b1799111.html)*[Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-united/transfer-news-rb-leipzig-ibrahima-konate-b1799111.html)*‘s Miguel Delaney.

The Reds have been [linked](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1350022713285496832?s=20) with the RB Leipzig star in the past, but ended up [bringing in Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55897340) in January.

Despite this, Liverpool are still believed to be eyeing up defensive reinforcements at the end of the season, with Konate one of the front-runners.

Manchester United and Chelsea are also keen on bringing in the 21-year-old, however, in what could be a battle for his signature.

Konate is an excellent young centre-back who ticks a lot of the boxes to be required at Liverpool.

The Frenchman has won an average of [3.0 aerial duels](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/345957/Show/Ibrahima-Konat%C3%A9) per game in the Bundesliga this season, which is the [same as Joe Gomez (3.0) and more than Virgil van Dijk (2.4)](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/26/Show/England-Liverpool), prior to their [injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/sperrenundverletzungen/verein/31).

With [Gomez](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/verletzungen/spieler/256178) and [Joel Matip](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joel-matip/verletzungen/spieler/82105) injury-prone, and Van Dijk not getting any younger, it makes sense to bring in another defender in the summer.

Davies may only prove to be stop-gap for Liverpool, while Kabak is currently only a loan signing.
