# Liverpool sign young French defender

Liverpool have completed the signing of French defender Billy Koumetio, according to [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/3759002/liverpool-sign-defender-billy-koumetio-16-from-orleans-source).

The 16-year old defender joins from US Orleans for a nominal fee, having spent time with the Reds on trial last year, having also travelled with the Under-17s to Berlin for friendlies in November.

Having started his career in Lyon’s academy, Koumetio made the move to second-division side Orleans and will now join Liverpool’s Under-16s side.

Koumetio joins Liverpool’s already well-stocked pool of young talent, with the club having signed 17-year old centre-back Ki-Jana Hoever from Ajax in the summer.
