# Liverpool remain in contention for David Alaba

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/19/van-den-berg-impresses-for-liverpools-u23s-and-could-become-centre-back-option/) remain in contention to sign Bayern Munich defender [David Alaba](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/19/blow-for-liverpool-as-david-alaba-agrees-to-join-real-madrid-this-summer/) in the summer according to [Bild](https://www.bild.de/bild-plus/sport/fussball/fussball/david-alaba-zu-real-madrid-spanier-melden-alles-fix-74958242,jsPageReloaded=true,view=conversionToLogin.bild.html###wt_ref=https%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2F&wt_t=1611050338906), despite [reports elsewhere](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/18/david-alaba-agrees-to-join-real-madrid-this-summer-transfer-news) suggesting that Real Madrid had secured his signature.

The report from the German publication spoke to the player’s father George, who has rubbished the notion that his son has sealed his next move by saying: ”I cannot confirm the reports from Spain. Nothing is fixed or signed yet. There are many interested parties.”

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a [glittering spell with the Bavarian giants](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-alaba/erfolge/spieler/59016) which looks very much like it will come to an end this summer as he seeks a new challenge, having [rejected the offer](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8904677/Bayern-Munich-withdraw-contract-offer-David-Alaba-Austrian-rejected-latest-proposal.html) of a prolonged stay at the Allianz Arena.

Despite his impending departure, Alaba remains no less of an influence at Munich as he plays in [almost all](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-alaba/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/59016/saison/2020/wettbewerb/L1/verein/27) of their Bundesliga fixtures.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing Alaba to play alongside [Virgil van Dijk when back to full fitness](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-injury-news-van-dijk-19642264) is almost more akin to fantasy football than anything in real life.

Not only is he an experienced defender who [possess all the attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/39722/Show/David-Alaba) of a top-class operator, he also [boasts plenty of versatility](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/david-alaba-10-things-on-the-bayern-munich-and-austria-hero-458329.jsp) as well with capabilities of playing in midfield and at full-back.

Whilst Real Madrid may well remain favourites to land Alaba, Liverpool’s hopes have not been fully doused and there remains a chance that fantasy could become reality at Anfield in this instance.
