# Liverpool take Ex-Barcelona defender on trial

Liverpool have taken former Barcelona defender Juanma on trial this summer, according to [the Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-fc-take-former-barcelona-11657846).

Juanma left Barcelona earlier this month after the Catalan club decided against offering him a new contract at the Nou Camp.

Liverpool have now swooped in to take him on trial, with the view to sign him if he impresses.

The left-back has been playing for the Under-21 side and started in the youth side’s friendly against Welsh Premier League outfit Rhyl FC.

Juanma can play at centre back and left back. He also captained Barcelona’s B team on six occasions last season, so he is certainly experienced despite his young age.

Jurgen Klopp’s side is bereft of quality in the fullback areas heading into the season, so he could look at Juanma as a possible option going forward if he impresses enough this summer although, it is most likely that he will be with the under-21 side for the immediate future if he does join permanently.
