# Liverpool target Aouar pens new five-year deal with Lyon

Houssem Aouar has signed a new five-year contract with Lyon, despite “strong interest” from Liverpool.

The midfielder was a key component in Lyon’s season, despite being just 19 years of age.

Making 44 appearances in all competitions, the youngster turned in performances worthy of attracting some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

One such club, it seems, was Liverpool. Despite the headlines being dominated by Liverpool’s interest in another Lyon midfielder (Nabil Fekir), the Reds were also reportedly keen on the prodigy Aouar.

However, any move for the phenom will have to wait. The Frenchman is a Lyon native, and has played for his boyhood club since he was 11.

Aouar has appeared in a variety of roles for the Les Gones this season, and Europe’s powerhouses are sure to keep an eager eye on the 2018/19 campaign of the prospect.

The next step poses to be a critical one for the development of Aouar, who has three appearances for the French Under-21 team.
