# Liverpool target Florian Neuhaus plays down transfer speculation

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder [Florian Neuhaus](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/11/liverpool-keen-on-move-for-florian-neuhaus/) has opted to play down [recent speculation](https://www.kicker.de/neuhaus-nicht-nur-beim-bvb-im-fokus-4000000036821/transfermeldung) linking him with a move to [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/22/liverpool-man-united-and-chelsea-all-keen-on-signing-ibrahima-konate/) at the end of the season.

German publication Kicker [linked the Reds](https://www.kicker.de/neuhaus-nicht-nur-beim-bvb-im-fokus-4000000036821/transfermeldung) with a summer swoop for the 23-year-old, but in [an interview](https://www.kicker.de/neuhaus-ich-will-titel-gewinnen-das-treibt-mich-an-797926/artikel) with the same outlet, Neuhaus was adamant that his main focus remains on the Bundesliga club, saying: “I have a contract until 2024 and I have very big goals for this season, that’s what I’m concentrating on now. \[Transfer talk\] is really not a big issue for me now.”

Neuhaus has enjoyed a prominent role in Monchengladbach’s season, appearing [30 times in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/leistungsdaten/spieler/278332) and contributing six goals and six assists along the way. A playmaking midfielder, the [thrice-capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/nationalmannschaft/spieler/278332/verein_id/3262) German international was [hailed has an ‘extraordinary footballer’](https://pressfrom.info/au/news/entertainment/-300727-rose-praises-neuhaus-has-everything-to-survive-in-the-shark-tank.html) by his current manager Marco Rose.

There was some hope for Liverpool’s pursuit, though, as the Monchengladbach ace [confirmed](https://www.kicker.de/neuhaus-ich-will-titel-gewinnen-das-treibt-mich-an-797926/artikel) that he “can’t say what will happen \[in the summer\]”.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Liverpool could be forced into the market for a [replacement for Gini Wijnaldum](https://www.football365.com/news/georginio-wijnaldum-decision-february-liverpool-future-complicated) at the end of the season, and Neuhaus’ [reported €40m (£34.6m) release clause](https://www.kicker.de/neuhaus-nicht-nur-beim-bvb-im-fokus-4000000036821/transfermeldung) makes him an attractive proposition.

The Reds have [lacked goals from midfield](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/top-scorers) in recent times, relying heavily on the front three in that department. Signing the German could be a [step in the right direction](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-neuhaus/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/278332) towards the next stage in the development of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
