# Liverpool target Issa Diop allowed to leave on loan

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/21/john-aldridge-believes-criticism-of-thiago-is-very-harsh/) may have been offered a potential solution to their central defensive problems as West Ham’s [Issa Diop](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/16/liverpool-reportedly-interested-in-move-for-west-ham-defender-issa-diop/) is [reportedly](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-green-light-diop-exit-this-month/) being allowed to leave on loan this month.

Former Everton manager David Moyes is apparently willing to loan out Diop for the remainder of the season; and with the [Reds being touted with an interest](https://www.patreon.com/thewesthamway/posts) previously, the Frenchman [could be in the frame](https://www.empireofthekop.com/2020/12/16/liverpool-looking-to-reinforce-defence-with-west-ham-star-says-club-insider/) for an Anfield move.

The 24-year-old has [fallen out of favour](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/leistungsdaten/spieler/272622) at the London Stadium despite having been an integral part of their plans previously.

Normally, Jurgen Klopp would likely not bad an eyelid at this potential loan swoop, but owing to the [defensive absentees](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool/manchester-united-klopp-henderson-fabinho-b1788677.html) within his squad, a temporary deal for Diop may be of interest.

Having made [more than 30 Premier League appearances](https://www.premierleague.com/players/49884/Issa-Diop/stats) in each of his last two seasons with the Hammers and [69 in total](https://www.premierleague.com/players/49884/Issa-Diop/stats), the 6 foot 3 [France underage international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/nationalmannschaft/spieler/272622/verein_id/9323) has seen barely any first team action this season, making just [four league appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/leistungsdaten/spieler/272622).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Klopp’s [squad is crying out for](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) an additional centre-half of almost any description.

After utilising [two midfielders](https://www.90min.com/posts/every-liverpool-centre-back-combination-used-2020-21-premier-league-season) at centre-back in recent matches as Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams watch on, it has never been more evident that reinforcements are required, especially with [Joel Matip’s continued unreliability](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joel-matip/verletzungen/spieler/82105).

Whilst West Ham may be reluctant to offer a helping hand to a domestic rival, despite the east Londoners’ strong start and the Reds shaky form of late, the two clubs are [competing on different fronts](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1).

With growing [angry discourse](https://www.goal.com/en/news/liverpool-must-sign-a-centre-back-in-january-carragher/1vn2lmejw3p9u12e51y2fwfl84#:~:text=It%20is%20%22paramount%22%20that%20Liverpool,1%20draw%20with%20West%20Brom.) over the impasse from the club regarding an incoming defender, a deal for Diop would at the very least appease the restless Kopites.
