# Liverpool target Youri Tielemans reportedly delaying contract talks

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/02/virals-alisson-becker-breaks-records-with-goal-of-the-season-award/) may have received a boost after they were linked with a sensational summer move for Leicester City midfielder[Youri Tielemans](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/02/kevin-campbell-lauds-brilliant-liverpool-target-youri-tielemans/) in the last week.

Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp is widely expected to enter the market in order to find a [central midfield replacement](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/gini-wijnaldum-could-replaced-liverpool-20680866) for the outgoing Gini Wijnaldum and Tielemans could well fit the bill.

The 24-year-old Belgian enjoyed a [superb Premier League campaign](https://www.premierleague.com/players/5865/Youri-Tielemans/stats) for the Foxes and is [believed](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldTalk/status/1399391074762756105?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) to have been left ‘devasted’ after Brendan Rodgers’ side missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification on the final day.

Remarkably, despite being way off the pace for some time the ousting champions managed to salvage their own season and finish third, thus ensuring elite European competition next term.

Coupled with the welcomed cash influx, Liverpool could make an audacious attempt to lure the [£49.5m valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youri-tielemans/marktwertverlauf/spieler/249565) Tielemans to Merseyside.

Those potential plans have potentially seen another boost as [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/football/transfers/2020-2021/chelsea-transfer-news-roman-abramovich-personally-driving-romelu-lukaku-deal-transfer-notebook_sto8348530/story.shtml) reported, as cited by [Anfield Effect](https://twitter.com/AnfieldEffect/status/1399982695447420930) on Twitter, that the [37-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youri-tielemans/nationalmannschaft/spieler/249565/verein_id/3382) ace has delayed contract talks with the Midlands club until after the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament.

In Leicester’s FA Cup-winning 2020/21, the Belgian midfielder scored [nine goals and registered six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youri-tielemans/leistungsdaten/spieler/249565) in an impressive 51 outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Whilst delaying talks could merely hold of the inevitable new deal, Tielemans is undoubtedly a player [equipped](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/136345/Show/Youri-Tielemans) to play amongst European’s elite – something Leicester can’t offer at present.

Klopp would be over the moon with a signing of Tielemans [quality](https://breakingthelines.com/player-analysis/player-analysis-youri-tielemans/) this summer.

Having already [bolstered the defensive options](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435628-liverpool-agree-deal-to-sign-ibrahima-konate-from-rb-leipzig) to the tune of Ibrahima Konate, a central midfield addition and a forward would represent the ideal summer window for the Reds.

Signing a proven Premier League operator with an [eye for the spectacular](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa22_vSG6H0) for at least one of those roles would be a major statement of intent from the club.
