# Liverpool told to make a late swoop for Harry Maguire

Liverpool have been urged to use these final days of the transfer window to make a move for Manchester United target Harry Maguire, by none other than the club’s former captain Phil Thompson.

Virgil van Dijk became the most expensive defender in the world when he moved clubs from Southampton to Liverpool for £75m last January but Thompson wants the Reds to sign Maguire to partner the Dutchman

Thompson told [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11460881/is-it-finally-liverpools-year),

> I like what Jurgen Klopp has done by trying to strengthen the players behind the front three and get more goals from that area. That part of the team is where you win titles and Fabinho, Shaqiri and Keita can provide that additional firepower. \[Adam\] Lallana is also back. With one more centre-back, Liverpool can be a real force; I’d be looking at snatching Harry Maguire from under Manchester United’s noses.

It seems like Liverpool will not be making any more purchases before the transfer window closes on Thursday afternoon, but one of Liverpool’s greatest defenders is still hoping that the Reds will do one more piece of business.

However, the chances of the Reds making a move for Maguire seem very, very slim. Klopp has already stated that he’s happy with his defensive options and the fact that Leicester would be asking for a huge fee for the England international means that a deal is highly unlikely.
