# Liverpool want to sign German international valued at around €60m

**Liverpool still have a lot of work to do in the transfer market to have a squad capable of competing on all fronts.**

The Reds signed four new players in the summer, but there are gaping holes to fill, particularly in defence and midfield.

The summer of 2027 could be an important one for Liverpool as captain Virgil van Dijk’s current deal expires.

There have been no indications, however, that this is the Dutchman’s last season at Anfield, but reports in Germany claim Liverpool are already keeping tabs on a seasoned central defender for next summer.

## Liverpool want to sign Nico Schlotterbeck

[Fussball News DE](https://fussball-news.de/2026/10/13/transfer-hammer-um-bvb-star-real-madrid-und-liverpool-bringen-sich-in-stellung/) report that the Reds are one of several clubs keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.

An excerpt from the article reads: “However, no concrete transfer negotiations have yet begun.

“According to information from fussball-news.de, Borussia Dortmund have received neither official offers nor are direct negotiations taking place with any of the interested clubs.

“Borussia Dortmund is already in a comfortable position. Just in April 2026, Schlotterbeck extended his contract long-term until June 30, 2031. As part of the extension, his annual salary is said to have increased to around ten million euros.

“However, the new contract apparently contains an interesting feature. According to information from fussball-news.de, Schlotterbeck has a release clause of 50 to 60 million euros, which is said to apply exclusively to selected top European clubs.

“It is not yet known which clubs specifically could benefit from this regulation.”

Schlotterbeck will be a wanted man and Liverpool have appreciated the player for several years now.

If he becomes available next summer, we can’t see a scenario where the Reds don’t make a move for him, as he is easily one of the best central defenders in the world.
