# Liverpool willing to sell Xherdan Shaqiri for £10m profit

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/27/liverpool-interested-in-signing-real-madrid-star-raphael-varane/) are reportedly willing to sell [Xherdan Shaqiri](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/26/xherdan-shaqiri-turns-down-january-move-to-hertha-berlin/) this summer if they can make a £10m profit on the Swiss ace according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-liverpool-plan-to-make-big-profit-on-shaqiri-as-transfer-plan-revealed/).

The Reds signed Shaqiri from a relegated Stoke City side in 2018 when they [triggered a release clause in his contract](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44818207) meaning he could leave for £13m.

Since then the 29-year-old has enjoyed a mixed career at Anfield, coming up with big moments for Jurgen Klopp’s side but unfortunately spending too much time on the physio table due to[repeated injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/verletzungen/spieler/86792).

The report claims Shaqiri, who was [billed as ‘superb’](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-team-news-arsenal-shaqiri-19023441)by Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijndrs, has decided to leave the club in the summer and as such Liverpool have set their asking price at £23m.

In three years on Merseyside to date, Shaqiri has played 59 times[scoring eight goals and making nine assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/86792), including a decisive cross for Gini Wijnaldum’s [tie levelling header against Barcelona](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11945/11984568/liverpool-4-0-barcelona-stunning-reds-comeback-revisited) in the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

In all honesty, this is a move that has been [in the making for numerous transfer windows](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/shaqiri-left-out-of-squad-ahead-of-potential-liverpool/m0jx688atwln1wwcb06c3rnnu#:~:text=Xherdan%20Shaqiri%20could%20leave%20Liverpool,28%2Dyear%2Dold%20winger.) and could easily have happened before now.

Shaqiri’s [injury issues have blighted his time](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/shaqiri-frustration-liverpool-injury-struggles-game-time/tr27w89c9p031am8ewcn8li7r) with the club and for all his obvious qualities when fit, Klopp simply [can’t rely on his availability](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/xherdan-shaqiri-explains-fresh-injury-17598786) for large proportions of a gruelling campaign.

Ironically this move could come on the back of a season whereby the Switzerland international [features more prominently](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/86792) than previous seasons in a Liverpool shirt – handy when it comes to demanding a premium fee.
