# Liverpool yet to make an approach for Issa Diop, claims journalist

Liverpool haven’t yet attempted to sign West Ham defender Issa Diop, according to the [*Telegraph*](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/)‘s Jason Burt on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/JBurtTelegraph/status/1355823440150880262?s=20).

The Reds are searching for a centre-back to bring in before Monday’s transfer deadline, as their [injury crisis](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/sperrenundverletzungen/verein/31) at the back worsens.

Jurgen Klopp is now without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Fabinho, meaning Nathaniel Phillips and Jordan Henderson are the current first-choice pairing.

Diop has been [linked](https://theathletic.com/2352996/2021/01/30/analysed-three-centre-backs-liverpool-could-bring-in-before-the-window-shuts/?source=emp_shared_article) with a move to Liverpool in recent days, but Burt claims that ‘no approach’ has been made for the Frenchman.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

Of all the players tipped to come in and solve the centre-back issue, Diop is arguably the best.

The 24-year-old may be struggling for playing time at West Ham – he has made [just three starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300359/Show/Issa-Diop) in the Premier League this season – but he is a more than competent defender in the English top flight, making [69 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/alletore/spieler/272622) in it overall.

He won an average of [2.5 aerial duels](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300359/History/Issa-Diop) per game in the league in 2019/20, with his dominance in the air making him a shrewd addition.
