# Liverpool could reportedly ‘revisit their interest’ for £40m Brighton midfielder in January

The summer transfer came to an end on Monday and saw Liverpool end on a rather quiet note.

Despite the [signing of Ibrahima Konaté](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/28/liverpool-sign-ibrahima-konate/) at the start of the window, the Reds failed to make any other additions.

This came as quite a surprise given the number of players that departed the club throughout the summer.

The like of Georginio Wijnaldum, Harry Wilson, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Marko Grujic [all left on permanent deals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/transfers/verein/31).

Throughout the summer window, Liverpool had been [extensively linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/01/virals-liverpool-hold-long-standing-interest-in-yves-bissouma/) with a move for Brighton’s Yves Bissouma.

Liverpool’s interest never went any further, but it now seems as though they are prepared to revisit that.

According to [Metro reporter Aden-Jay Wood](https://twitter.com/AJWood16/status/1433030248971575296), the Reds, along with Manchester United and Arsenal, may make a move for Bissouma in January…

> I'm told there remains long-standing interest in Brighton's Yves Bissouma from several clubs including Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool. Bissouma, who has 2yrs left on his current deal, is happy on the south coast, but one that could be revisited in January. The summer window may have only just come to an end but attention is turning to the winter.

Of course, the club’s activity in January will depend solely on how they fare in the league and other competitions.

Jurgen Klopp made it clear that he is [happy with the squad](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/27/virals-jurgen-klopp-predicts-quiet-end-to-summer-transfer-window/) of players he has for this season.

However, there is no telling what could happen between now and then, with last season a prime example.

[Injuries](https://www.anfield-online.co.uk/squad/lfc-injuries.html) to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip saw the Reds [dip into the market](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc/transfers/verein/31/plus/?saison_id=2020&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=w) last in January.

If the club’s midfield options don’t improve or fail to deliver, then there is no reason why Bissouma may be a target.

The [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-news-rumours-live-21460782) claims that a deal for the midfielder could cost as much as £40million.

Liverpool have a Winaldum sized hole in their current squad and Bissouma more than fits the bill.
