The Liverpool duo played a key role in the Reds’ efforts to reach the Champions League final last season, while Lovren also impressed during the World Cup in Russia.

Their nominations may not come as a surprise to some, including Lovren himself, who [hailed himself](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/13950/11434084/dejan-lovren-says-he-is-one-of-the-best-defenders-in-the-world) as one of the best defenders in the world earlier this year.

Fellow Premier League defenders on the list include; Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Everton’s Yerry Mina.
